9.01.010 Authority

Pursuant to the authority vested in the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe, (hereinafter referred to as the "Tribe") and its Tribal Council, by virtue of the Tribe's inherent powers of self-government recognized by the federal government in the Treaty with the Seven Nations of Canada, 7 Stat. 55 (May 31, 1796) and the power of a majority of the Tribal Council to act on behalf of the Tribe pursuant to the customs and traditions of the Tribe, the Tribe hereby authorizes the operation of a variety of Class II and Class III games (as defined by IGRA and this chapter) as a means to promote the Tribe's economic development, self-sufficiency, and strong Tribal government and establishes a public body known as the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribal Gaming Commission (hereinafter referred to as the "Tribal Gaming Commission") to regulate such gaming.
