8.01.010 General Provisions

(a) The Membership Code of the Tribe shall determine who shall be the members of the Tribe.

(b) The Membership Code shall be adopted by a referendum vote.

(c) The Membership Code can be amended or repealed in a referendum vote.

(d) The Membership Code of the Tribe is binding in the determination of the status of any individual as an Akwesasne Mohawk

(e) Akwesasne Mohawk means a person who is registered as an Akwesasne Mohawk, or is entitled to be registered as an Akwesasne Mohawk pursuant to the Criteria for Membership

(f) The Tribal Chiefs shall have overall responsibility for this Membership Code.

(g) The Tribal Clerk of the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe shall have administrative responsibilities according to this Membership Code.

(h) Applications for membership shall be made to the Tribal clerk.

(i) There shall be established a Membership Court of the saint Regis Mohawk Tribe.
